Pride and Prejudice (Book)

Image
I have been super excited to post about Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, as it is a great book and really worth reading! Pride and Prejudice is about the Bennet family, who live in an estate called Longbourn. Mr and Mrs Bennet have 5 daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. The story is about Mrs Bennet, their mother, trying to marry off her girls, and Mr Bennet laughing at the crazy antics of Mrs Bennet. The title of the book refers to two of the main characters in the story, Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Mr Darcy is the owner of a great estate in Derbyshire which is called Pemberley. His main fault is pride, and throughout the book he learns to be more humble. Elizabeth Bennet is the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Bennet and her main fault is prejudice. She instantly dislikes Mr Darcy because she hears him say that she is not pretty enough to tempt him, and maintains this opinion of him, even when it should've been obvious to her that she had no reason or fou...

Frankenstein

Image
A book that I have been wanting to review for some time is the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The reason being that a lot of people have some very large misconceptions about it. I read it for schoolwork, and I was kinda nervous to read it, because I always thought Frankenstein was really scary! But when I read it, I realised that the book wasn't really scary, it was more sad and heart-wrenching. It really portrays the human desire to be like God.  So you might be wondering why I actually like Frankenstein? Well, I love it because it is a representation of the sublime. You might think sublime means really nice, like a sublime chocolate cake, but in literature it has a different meaning. It means something that draws awe and wonder, that something often being dark and grotesque, although it could be something beautiful as well. In this piece of literature, it is the darkness and the tragedy that makes it sublime.  The story of Frankenstein is really one of tragedy....

The Little White Horse

Image
Hi everyone! I was talking to my mum about the first book I was going to review on my blog, and we thought for a while about all the great books I've read, but as soon as I thought of this book, I knew I had to review it first.  The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge is definitely one of my all time favourite books, if not my most favourite book! I would recommend it for ages 10 and up, but I think that anyone, regardless of their age, should read this book. By the way, this is not a book about horses. Horse books are not really my thing, and I just wanted to clarify that, because the title makes it sound like it is one.  The book is about a girl named Maria, who moves to Moonacre Valley to live with her uncle. She moves with her dog and her nurse. The story follows all of the adventures that she has in Moonacre valley, and all the mystery around the people. I would love to tell you everything about it, but that would obviously spoil the book, and I would never want ...

I'm back (Take 2)

Hi everyone!  If you don't know who I am, my name is Rebekah Faith and I am currently 15. I am homeschooled by my amazing mum Rosemary. I used to post on this blog very occasionally when I was younger, but now I am going to try and post more often.   I've noticed that old classic books are not as popular as they used to be, and I want to change that. There are so many amazing old books out there, that really aren't that hard to read. Once you get past the fact that the culture was slightly different to ours, you will actually realise that they are really enjoyable. I want to start talking about the books that I have read, and the books that I am going to read on this blog. I also would love to write reviews about movies old and new alike that I love to watch.  I think that will be the main focus for the blog, and it is the reason I came back to it after so many years. If you are curious to know about the books I read growing up, then you can visit my mum's blog a...
