The Little White Horse

Hi everyone!

I was talking to my mum about the first book I was going to review on my blog, and we thought for a while about all the great books I've read, but as soon as I thought of this book, I knew I had to review it first.

The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge is definitely one of my all time favourite books, if not my most favourite book! I would recommend it for ages 10 and up, but I think that anyone, regardless of their age, should read this book. By the way, this is not a book about horses. Horse books are not really my thing, and I just wanted to clarify that, because the title makes it sound like it is one.

The book is about a girl named Maria, who moves to Moonacre Valley to live with her uncle. She moves with her dog and her nurse. The story follows all of the adventures that she has in Moonacre valley, and all the mystery around the people. I would love to tell you everything about it, but that would obviously spoil the book, and I would never want to do that, especially with such an amazing book like this one.

There are so many reasons why I love this book, but I will just list the top three:

1. It is a very real fantasy novel.

What do I mean about very real fantasy? Well what I mean is that it is written in a way that makes the book seem completely real. The elements of fantasy in the book, are so slight, that it almost seems like what happens in the book could actually happen in real life. I really love this because it draws you into the story, and at the end it seems as if you had read a true story.

2. It is almost like watching a movie

This book is so well written, that it almost seems as if you are watching a movie. The scenes are descriptive, but not too descriptive that it gets boring. You feel as if you can see the characters, and hear them talking. All good books usually have this in common.

3. The ending is incredibly good!

One thing that you must know about me is that I LOVE good endings. The book keeps you guessing about things until the very end. And the ending paragraph is honestly one of the best endings I have ever read! It is so beautiful that it made me cry when I read it! Sometimes I just pick up the book to read the ending. I would quote it here, but you won't get it unless you read the book.

This book is a children's book, but I think it is so beautiful that anyone can enjoy it. My dad read it and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. This book gets a 10/10 from me.
I would like to end with one of my favourite quotes from the book:

'For a fleeting instant Maria thought she saw a little white horse with a flowing mane and tail, head raised, poised, halted in mid-flight, as though it had seen her and was glad.'
